Boswellia serrata, also known as Indian frankincense, is a plant native to India. Frankincense trees grow in India, Pakistan, north-eastern Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. For hundreds of years this plant has been used as an ingredient of incense.

The active components found in frankincense resin are boswellic acids. In traditional Indian medicine this plant is used to treat conditions of the joints, bones and spine, as well as the digestive tract, respiratory system and allergies.
